Chapman Stick — Play

A conversation between two registers.

Tapping

Tap hardness gives the start of the note an intention. Even attacks can form the framework of a groove or support a melodic phrase.

Register balance

Bass balance and Dual register explore the relationship between low and high. Write complementary phrases rather than lines that cover each other.

Electric colour

Pickup tone and Pickup drive shape the signal’s character. Keep a clear colour for counterpoint or bring out the grain for a riff.

New demos coming soon.

The audio engines have been reworked. The previous recordings have been removed while their replacements are prepared.

Two hands, two registers

Laurel Canyon · California

A bass and a counter-melody with a shared character.

A starting point for funk, progressive rock or a two-voice electronic arrangement.

01

Lay the foundation

Write a short low line with a few accents around the drums.

02

Leave a response

Add a higher phrase in the low line’s rests. Compare registers before keeping both lines running.

03

Let the motif grow

Open up sustain or colour in the chorus, then return to tighter articulation for the verse.

One attack. Two registers.

FORMATS & WORKFLOW

VST3
Compose and automate inside a compatible audio workstation.
Standalone
Play the instrument on its own, with your MIDI keyboard.
Windows / Linux x64
A synthesis instrument controlled by MIDI. No separate sample library to install.

BEFORE YOU START

What creates the sound?
This instrument is a synthesis interpretation. Its dedicated playing controls explore the character of the instrument through a MIDI keyboard or a part written in your audio workstation.
Do I need to play two lines all the time?
A single tapping line can be enough. Introduce a higher response when the arrangement allows, keeping a clear purpose for each register.
Can I hear it?
Audio demonstrations and videos will be added here soon.
How do I install it?
Read the installation guide

Measured processing time per audio block in an offline VST3 host, after warm-up. Three 60-second renders per case; 128, 256 and 512-sample blocks. Exposed reverb, delay, chorus, flanger and phaser controls were toggled; other processing kept its preset settings. The stress setting was selected from the programs exposed to this host. These figures describe this configuration, not minimum requirements or guaranteed real-time DAW performance.

Linux installation and dependencies checked in a Debian container. Audio hardware and Linux DAWs were not tested.
